Useful facts about the HC11 Vandymatic Development Kit

Roberto Schipp
The HC11 VandyMatic Development Kit (HC11-VDK) is the third generation of 8
bit microprocessor development boards designed at Vanderbilt University.
HC11-VDK is a single board microcomputer based on Motorola's
MC68HC11 MCU, an advanced single chip MCU with a variety of
on-chip memory and peripheral functions. HC11-VDK is a low
cost development tool which can be used to debug downloaded
user code intended for MC68HC11 target systems. Hardware Features
- MC68HC11A1/2MHz with MC68HC24 PRU including:
- HCMOS (speed, latchup, power, density)
- 256 bytes SRAM
- 512 bytes EEPROM
- 8 bit A/D
- serial interface SCI/SPI
- 16 bit free running timer (3 IN, 5 OUT, 1 RTI)
- 8 bit pulse accumulator to measure events

FCC Regulations
This equipment is for laboratory use only and does not comply with FCC regulations Part 15. The board may cause interference to radio communications without using proper precautions.
Safety Consideration
Wearing of safety glasses is recommended when using open
Installation
Operating equipment requirements
In addition to the HC11-VDK, a power supply (see
Specifications) and an RS232 terminal (9600,8,1,n) connected to J2 with a null-modem cable is required to operate the board.
Quick installation
-
Place the board on a non-conductive surface
-
Install jumper J15 if a +5VDC power supply is used
-
Install jumper J9 between positions 2-3
-
Remove jumpers J6, J7, J8, J14, J10 (NOTE: Do
NOT install J10, this is a battery connector
which will damage the board if installed !)
-
Connect J2 to a terminal (9600,8,1,n)
-
Optionally connect J3 to a host system (9600,8,1,n)
-
Set all DIP switches to OFF
-
Connect a +5VDC/500mA min power supply (wall module type) to J1
DIP Switch configuration
The DIP switch S2 is only used during board reset and can be
used otherwise for user programs. The following options are
currently available upon board reset.
