From: Joan Walker - Dear Design Student,

Please construct a concept map in response to this question: What is your current conceptual understanding of what is involved in the biomedical engineering design process? Your map can be used as a study guide for the final exam and if you like, you can bring your map to the exam. Because we are interested in how your understanding of design develops over the year, we will need to keep your map and copy it when you to turn it in on Tuesday the 28th. We will give it back to you before the class period immediately prior to the exam (which is Thursday 10.20; Exam date is Tuesday 11.04).

In addition to constructing the map, please respond to the following questions. Your input is very valuable. To match your responses to your concept maps I need to have your name on this form and on the concept map.

  1. What have you learned about design so far this semester?

  1. What do you think you’ll learn about design from the design project?

  1. During the first week of class, we asked you to make a concept map about the design process. I know it’s been a while, but what’s your best estimate about the amount of time you spent constructing that first concept map?

Less than 30 minutes       30-45 minutes     more than 45 minutes           other_________

  1. How much time did you spend constructing your second concept map?

Less than 30 minutes       30-45 minutes     more than 45 minutes           other_________

  1. What does it take to be successful in the design course?

  1. Is there anything else you’d like us to know about your experience in the design class?
