The teleoperation of a mobile robot is a basic operation that requires human-robot interaction. In this project, a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) based teleoperation interface for a mobile robot is developed. This interface uses the PDA as a touch screen for teleoperation and does not require a stylus to generate commands.
This interface is designed to provide interaction in a manner similar to a wristwatch so that the operator’s hands are free. A PDA-based interface provides only limited display real estate and interaction capabilities. Since the PDA screen size is limited, important information cannot be simultaneously displayed. Therefore, it is suggested to have an interface composed different screens for differing conditions to facilitate the screen real estate and interaction constraints.
